|Little league is set up for children in the Pine Island school district. League participants are divided into teams and compete in league play. The purpose of the league is to allow kids to develop baseball skills and enjoy the game of baseball while competing in team play against other Pine Island little league teams.
Each little league division will have one or more coordinators that oversee the league.
Divisions by Grade
A child's grade is based on the grade they are completing in the current school year (the school year prior to the summer baseball season). Little leagues are offered for children starting in Pre-K and K (Tee Ball) through the sixth grade (Majors). When you register your child online you will specify their grade and the system will offer the appropriate session(s) for your child. Girls typically play in the Little League T-Ball and Rookie divisions until they reach the 3rd grade. Girls that have just completed 3rd grade are encouraged to start playing summer softball through the Pine Island Panther Strikes program. Panther strikes begins focusing more specifically on softball fundamentals and teaches girls the game of softball while Little League baseball starting with the Minors division stresses baseball fundamentals and rules.
Little league games start the week of June 9, 2014.
The Rookie, Minors and Majors championship games are tentatively scheduled for the morning of Saturday July 19, 2014.
